Teresa Brisa

Nova Friburgo – RJ, 1990

A travesti artist, Teresa Brisa’s production is focused on the domesticated body, in the control of desire, and on the death and birth of her self as a trans person.

The artist often has the sacred element as a starting point for her creations. This reference comes from her four-year experience in a religious sect from which she has collected what she considers to be a “repertoire of absurdities”.

She obtained a degree in Fashion and migrated to the Arts in 2012, after enrolling at EAV Parque Lage (Rio de Janeiro), where she intensified her artistic studies and practices in different media.

Currently, she lives and works in São Paulo, dedicating herself mainly to embroidery, looking to collage for her thinking and aesthetics, and she sells them online through her brand Inácia de Boyola.

She has taken part in the collective exhibitions “Todas as vezes em que pensei estar a salvo”, [“All the times I thought I was safe”] at Casa Contemporânea (São Paulo, 2020); “Espaço do Olhar” [“Space of the Gaze”], at Instituto Tomie Ohtake (São Paulo, 2019), and “Coletiva EAV 2013” at Parque Lage (Rio de Janeiro, 2013).
