Nêmesis Lima de Farias Melo

Camaragibe – PE, 2001

Currently pursuing a teaching degree in Social Sciences from the Federal University of Pernambuco, Nêmesis area of research is Gender. She composes political spaces that have the goal of provoking debates about transfeminist issues and urgencies of the Trans and Travesti corporealities. Through her work as a socio-emotional educator, she also promotes discussions and analysis of those issues.

A specialist in Gesture Drawing, as a visual artist and illustrator Nêmesis presents interventions in her works that lead to reflections on ancestry and decolonialism of corporealities. In doing so, her work proposes an analysis that is detached from the cultural genitalism that constructs the patriarchal and oppressive imagery. Thus, she criticizes “the negative influence of the ‘cistem’ that makes travestis, trans persons, and society in general want to change no matter what and to deny their dissident bodies – those that escape the standards established by science, religion, and capitalism”, she says.

Through her artistic creations, Nêmesis proposes a new perspective on gender, ancestry, body, and aesthetics through simple and firm lines.
